Wanderlust Festival Whistler 2015 : Yoga – New Friends – Great Experience

Wanderlust Festival is an event of a lifetime where you can go and learn new things about yourself, others, and of course, about yoga.  I had the pleasure of attending this event in Whistler, BC. Vancouver and Whistler have some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen; pine trees as far as the eyes can see and the beautiful islands of Vancouver will keep you in awe all the way to Whistler.

I arrived by shuttle (RideBooker.com) in Whistler on Thursday around 6pm. Upon arriving, the offices for Wanderlust were already closed so I would have to get my wristband and accoutrements the next day. One thing I had read online before attending, was that the food and people were the best part of Whistler. My first stop was The Brewhouse (http://www.mjg.ca/brewhouse/) and little did I know I was stopping by one of the best places, which I frequented a few times for the duration of my trip. The best part were the bartenders who were very attentive, witty, and kind. They have great food and tasty local craft beers on tap! The other place that I can’t recommend enough is The Green Moustache (greenmoustachejuice.com), which has all kinds of vegan and health conscience food. The next morning I showed up to the Wanderlust Compass Pavilion as soon as it opened at 7am. This help me beat the crowd of yogis to get my wristband, schedule, and a bracelet which was a gift from the Wanderlust crew!

The official pamphlet for Wanderlust was a great help with navigating the area and times for the classes. If there is one thing that I can recommend when you buy your ticket, is to book your classes early!  The classes fill up fast, especially the Stand Up Paddle boarding classes. You are required to make your schedule before attending the festival so the earlier you book them the better. The classes are the best part about the trip which include all different kinds of yoga, meditation, speakers, artists, and musicians.

If you plan to do any of the hikes at the top of the peak, give yourself a time buffer because it takes at least 10 minutes to get through the queue at the gondola ride, and another 30 minutes to ride the gondola to the peak. I made the mistake of showing up to the booth 10 minutes before the class and the wanderlust employees informed me that I would be late because I didn’t show up early enough due to the trip on the gondola. So don’t let this happen to you!

The people of Canada and the yogis who attended the festival were so welcoming and kind. I attended the festival by myself and I was worried at first because I didn’t know anyone, but all the attendees want to talk about the classes and the fun times they’re having so if you’re flying solo, don’t be afraid. You will have a blast! If you get a chance I highly recommend attending the festival next year. I promise you won’t regret it.
